Developed to meet the needs of tire manufacturers looking for longer ozone defense in tires, Durazone® 37 antiozonant offers the next level in protection. Addivant will be presenting this product, along with other rubber additives, at the Tire Technology Expo in Cologne, 10-12 February 2015.
Addivant is known as an innovator in the field of rubber additives, developing customized solutions that provide customers enhanced application performance. The company’s research chemists have discovered subtle differences between ozone reaction characteristics with Durazone® 37 antiozonant and more traditional antiozonants. Traditional antiozonants, such as 6PPD and Flexzone® 4L (77PD), have proven effective for short-term ozone protection of rubber goods. Durazone® 37 antiozonant (PPDTZ), however, is unique in that, when exposed to ozone, a nitroxyl radical is created at an extremely fast rate. Understanding the new product’s rapid ozone reaction speed and slow migration characteristics, along with the way it reacts with other traditional antiozonants, «could lead – according to Addivant’s chemists – to new solutions in rubber compounding».
Durazone® 37 rapidly deals with the ozone before passing on the oxygen atom to the commodity antiozonant. This allows for the antiozonant to be recycled and to react again, thus providing rapid acting and long lasting ozone protection. Other benefits include low toxicology, low migration and non-staining characteristics.
